Gibraltar

Landing at Gibraltar

I’m currently reading Paradise Lost by John Milton and I’m still in the very early stages of that is a rather epic poem. Interestingly, I came across a reference to Gibraltar in it, which set my mind jogging. So using the internet’s three primary search organs, I wikipedia-ed, Google-mapped, and then YouTubed it. I remember seeing a photograph of the runway of the airport in Gibraltar, which, due to space constraints, is traversed by a major highway.

(Winston Churchill Avenue in fact; it’s a four lane highway and it’s the only connecting road between Gibraltar and Spain.)

Anyway, here’s a wee little video showing the road in use before a plane lands, followed by the runway in use as a plane lands. I suppose it’s much like a level crossing, only with an A320 instead of a train.
